Topo for today's ~18 mile outing. Trailhead was China Camp in the upper right. Followed the Pine Ridge Trail for much of the day. The spur loop to SVC and the last 2 miles west of the Bear Basin trail were off trail.

Hit the trail a little after 6am and it was just light enough to navigate w/o my headlamp. It had rained overnight and the trailside vegetation was very wet. I did my best to avoid it, but was quickly soaked from the waist down. (Had a waterproof jacket, but my kevlar bushwacking pants weren't waterproof.) This shot is a first look at today's destination. (Peak 4804 on the left, Ventana Cone in the center, and VDC on the right)

Got to the Church Creek Divide just after the sun. Still a bit of fog down here in the valley. Noone camping here today.

The trailsign at the Church Creek divide/Pine Ridge trail junction. Right turn heads down to Pine Valley and (eventually) the Carmel River trail and the Los Padres Dam.

This rodent didn't seem overly concerned with my presence and wandered right up to my foot before darting back to its burrow.

The trail crews had been hard at work and the Pine Ridge trail was in much better shape than my last trip up here. This section had been completely overgrown and was now in good shape.

Stopped and filled my nalgene at the first side canyon past Divide Camp. This is usually last water source along the pine ridge, but today there were a few more seasonal streams with water.

Bear Basin connector trail, which also had benefitted from the recent trail crew work. The right fork heads down to join the Bear Basin trail, the left is the continuation of the Pine Ridge trail. I think the trailsign is new.
