The Smith Meadow trailhead, between the ranger station and the main Hetch Hetchy complex. Room for a car or two.

The trail climbed steeply from the road, switchbacking up the hill. There was a small creek crossing a short way up the trail.

The tail end of the reservior was visible from the early sections of the trail.

A trail junction about a mile in. Turning right takes one up to the entrance ranger station, turning left continues up to Smith Meadow.

These purple wildflowers were common along the trail.

After another mile or so, the trail leveled off somewhat and headed through a few new growth meadows

Continuing through a series of new growth meadows.

Into the pines (and into the shade) about midway to Smith Meadow.

The trail soon joined Cottonwood Creek, which was flowing heavily.
