8.2 Miles with a hefty 3400ft of gain today. This was my 4th trip to Rubicon but my first trip across the ridge to Jakes.

Parked at the trailhead atop the Rubicon housing development. There were 3 other cars a the trailhead when I left.

The early trail climbed steeply and then leveled off for about a quarter mile at a flat section that gave the first view of the lake.

Looking up at the peak before heading into the steep section. There was a water tank near the end of the flat.

Pictures don't quite do it justice- but the cairned trail of the last mile was quite steep.

This spring usually has water- but it was bone dry today. Didn't see a drop of water on the entirety of today's route.
