Topo and gps tracks for todays 10mi, 2500ft gain outing from the River Mountain trailhead in Boulder City. This was my 2nd outing out of this trailhead, having done a loop to Red Mountain and the Black Mountain Overlook a few months back.

2nd car in the lot this morning. Would be a few more when I returned a few hours from now.

Picnic table and trailhead signage. The initial section of the trail cuts between a housing complex and a rain wash to reach the wilderness beyond.

Red Mountain (left) and Black Mountain (right). The trail would head up the canyon between the two. One dog walker and one mountain biker out this morning.

Looking back down at Boulder City with a bit of Lake Mead visible from this elevation.

Following the trail into the canyon. It would skirt the bottom for a bit and then switchback up the left side.

Black Mountain Overlook (with its developed benches and signage) visible across the canyon.

Up to the saddle at the head of the canyon. Right turn to head down the trail to the overlook.

First good look at today's ridge traverse. Black Mountain on the right over to River Mountain on the far left. Lots of up and down in between.
