Topo and GPS tracks for today's ~10mi 3500ft gain out and back dayhike to the Potosi Mountain summit.

This is the southern (eastside) service road approach from the outskirts of Goodspring, NV. (South of Vegas on I-15). All road hiking today except for a short class 2 scramble at the end.

Past Goodspring and then 2mi back on a ranch road. One dicey section on the road where it crossed a wash.

Much cooler than I was expecting and I put on a sweatshirt and then went back for my jacket.

Just beyond where I had parked was a locked gate. (Though there were tracks where folks in ATVs had bypassed the gate)

This road was the primary route for accessing the rather large collection of telecom equipment all along the ridge.

The first mile or so of the road was paved and extremely steep. I was soon huffing and puffing and I shed the jacket I had put on at the start of the trip.

A snowcat parked midway up the first slope. Apparently this peak can and does get snow in the winter and the snowcats are needed to access the peak when the road isn't clear.

The road gained 1500+ feet in the first mile or so. My car is visible below- but only as a spec in the full sized shot.

Up to the first saddle where it got substantially colder and windier. This shot is of the 1st of 3 peaks along the ridge w/ telecom equipment (with the last being the Potosi summit)

My route wouldn't be climbing this sub-summit- but rather crossing in front on the lower road.

Nice view of snow capped Mt Charleston off to the north for the remainder of today's route.
