Topo and GPS tracks from today's ~11mi 2500ft gain outing from Sonora Pass to Leavitt Peak. I had last attempted this peak in '08 but got turned back by a summer thunderstorm. My last successful summit of Leavitt was in 2003 via Deadman Canyon.

The PCT headed steeply up to crest a small ridge and then dipped down to this small valley. (Which earlier in the spring is usually a prime spot for wildflowers)

Looking off to the north across hwy 108. The cinder cone is Stanislaus Peak. The highpoint on the right horizon is Sonora Peak.

The PCT hugs the side of this canyon as it winds south. Feeling much better on this trip than on my '08 outing- the benefits of now living at 7300ft instead of driving up from sea level.

The middle part of the climb up the initial canyon. The clouds off to the south would gradually move up to the pass as the morning progressed

Someone had recently dropped an unopened cannister of Bear Pepper Spray on the trail. (And this person was probably upset- these cannisters retail for $40-$50). Picked his up to pack out.
