Topo and GPS tracks for this late afternoon 6mi ~1800ft gain outing from the southbound Carson Pass PCT trailhead. I had last been on this trail for a summit of Round Top and the Sisters last year.

Late ~3:30pm start this afternoon. Paid my $5 and headed south from the Carson Pass parking lot. Ran into a number of parties in the initial half mile or so and then noone else for the remainder of the day.

And a first look at Elephants Back (my first destination for today's outing) from the trail. Elephants back had been visible from near Carson Pass on the drive in.

The junction of the PCT and the trail to Winnemucca Lake. My outbound route was left but I would be returning from the right.

I only followed the PCT for about 5 minutes before heading off cross country towards Elephants Back. Thought this was a use trail, but it was faint if it existed at all.
